The wedding breakfast and speeches
Now we are at the time of day when everyone is starting to relax. All except those who have to do their speeches of course!
Apart from the speeches, the major formalities of the day are over. The Bride and Groom, family and friends can now take a moment to enjoy a meal, be it a sit down served meal or a help yourself buffet. This is a time for me to switch into reportage mode and to get the natural images of everyone enjoying themselves.
Where possible I always take a picture of each table with everyone present. I will most likely have set up a mock cutting of the cake with the agreement of the Bride and Groom. This can be done while everyone is enjoying their drinks in another room, and in the calm I can get some creative shots. The advantage of this tactic is that when the cutting takes place for real, I can be an observer and capture the entire scene with people crowding around to take pictures of the event. Now I can present the Bride and Groom with two perspectives of the scene. I will also capture the details on the tables and take photographs of the entire room, close up cake shots and pictures of menus, table seating plans, and so on.
Once the meal is served I leave everyone to enjoy their food. I don't take any pictures while people are eating unless there are any specific requests for images.
It is during this time that I will review my images to ensure that I have most if not all of the images requested. Any that I haven't managed to get, I can revisit after the meal and speeches.
Oh yes, the speeches. I return to the room for the speeches of course. What I want to capture at this stage apart from the fear of the speakers is the enjoyment, laughter and sometimes tears of the guests.
Here are some examples of images captured during this part of the day. I hope you enjoy them. Please contact me if you wish to discuss your wedding day photography.
thanks,
Mark.
